Armistice Day is a national holiday in France. It commemorates the end of World
War 1, also known as the "Great War" (1914-1918).
On November 11th, 5:00 a.m., Germany signs an Armistice agreement with the Allies in a railroad car in Compiègne (France).
11/11/1918, 11:00 a.m. : the cessation of hostilities on the Western front takes effect - "the eleventh hour on the eleventh
day of the eleventh month ".
